Help ! 5k100 80GB Hard Drive Firmware Update

#1 Post by arthurcorell » Sun Feb 11, 2007 1:20 am

I have a Hitachi 5k100 80 GB SATA Hard Drive.

How can I upgrade the firmware to IBM's firmware ?

I downloaded the firmware from Lenovo's site, but it won't work !

Why are you even trying to do this?

The only common reason I can think of for updating firmware on a retail drive is to avoid the 2010 error found on the T43 series. This is a SATA drive and you are using it in a T60 (or at least you posted this on the T60 board). It should work fine without doing anything to the firmware.

In general, if it ain't broke, don't fix it. Although I'm pretty sure you COULD change the firmware to make the drive appear to be an OEM Options drive, what are you trying to accomplish by doing so on this drive being used in a T60?

Thanks for your reply.

Yes, I'm using T60 2623-D7U.
If it's not necessary, why IBM have their firmware update on the website ?

For the same reason that they have about 15 FRU numbers for most any part.

For the same reason that every part, no matter how small, comes with a 27 page booklet in 14 languages that says basically, if you take the part into the shower and blow dry your hair at the same time, you might get electrocuted.

I could give you other reasons but it is late and I'm going to bed :P
