Few questions on the X40 (possible upgrade from T41?)

I currently have the following:
IBM T41
Pentium-M 1.7ghz
1gb PC-2700 (2x512)
2.5" 60gb 5.4
DVD/CD-RW
Mobility Radeon 9000 32mb
14.1" SXGA+
802.11ABG
Bluetooth
2 batteries
3 year warranty (-2 months)

I'm thinking about getting an X40...but there are a lot of items I'd like to carry over.
the RAM
the hdd
the 802.11ABG card

however....if I remember correctly, it only would allow me to use 1 512mb stick...
and...it would only support 1.8" hdds, so the 60gb won't work.

am I missing anything?

some x40s have 512MB is base RAM, from what i understand, so you still have a slot free with those models (someone please correct me if I'm wrong).

As for the HDD - yep - the smaller ones, but there will undoubtedly be larger ones coming out sooner rather than later. Example: didn't Toshiba or Hitachi just announce a 100GB 2.5"?

Personally, the 40GB in mine is more than enough. I carry around a portable HDD for mirroring of files and general storage, although I am thinking of getting a second for back-ups and more long term storage.

depending on what you use the T41 for, you might find the X40 a bit lacking in the horsepower department. If you're using primarily business apps, though, you'll love it. I use llustrator 10 and Photoshop 7 on mine (as well as SPSS - statistical software) and have been quite pleased. Sure, not as zippy as my 3.0GhZ desktop at work, but not a fair comparison.

Let us know what you go with!
X40 (2371-6EM) w/ 768 RAM
XPP SP2
DLINK DI-614+
