$700

for

Thinkpad T60
1.86Ghz Centrino Core Duo
1GB,
WiFi,
DVD/CDRW,
FingerPrintReader
60gb 5400rpm
Notebook/Battery/Laptop Bag only

Is this a good deal? What would be its current value on the market if i didn't like and thought about reselling it..? It'll be my first thinkpad.

Thanks guys!

The BIOS shows the serial number. Yes it would still be a good deal even if it's without warranty.

:!: Given the price and no sticker, it is highly likely to be a stolen item.

Barring any moral issues you may have with buying something that might possibly be stolen, its only illegal if you *know* youre buying stolen property.

That being said, it is suspicious. The price seems a little low, and combined with the sticker being removed...you get the point. Just the sticker alone wouldn't bug me...I always used to remove all the stickers on my computers.

find out if its stolen...
get the serial number from the guy, explain how to check it.

and then give lenovo a call and find out.

as mentioned above.. the price seems a little tooo good which makes me think its stolen aswell.

Corrado85, are you referring to this T60 on the Houston Craigslist? It has identical specs but is $780.

Legal or not, if it's a stolen item, the police may chase it down and get it from you and you will not likely get any of your money back in that situation.

Considering that the serial number is in a recessed area on the bottom, it is very unlikely that it was be accidentally stripped. This is almost certainly a stolen item. Stay away.
If the machine was reported and documented, you won't be able to get any service for it and you might even be reported as holding stolen property. There is an *internal* electronic serial number that cannot be erased without destroying the motherboard. It's one thing to unknowingly buy stolen property; the worst that can happen is that you lose it if found out; it's another to knowlingly buy and hold stolen property; that is a crime in most states.

Anyway, I just checked on this: The machine serial number will show up on the first screen of the BIOS. Turn on the machine, pressing F1 repeatedly until the BIOS screen comes up (or the machine password prompt). You will see various statistics, including the system serial number. Copy that down and you can go to the Lenovo web site to check its warranty status. This serial number will also include the model number so you can check out its specs in detail. If it was stolen and registered with Lenovo, that may turn up there also. Note however that it may be stolen but not registered (yet), because Lenovo won't register a stolen computer until you fax them a copy of the final police report, which can take weeks to get done in some jurisdictions.

Corrado is the given name of . . . . Junior Soprano :P

It probably just fell off a truck. Surprisingly, colloquial French uses the same exact expression about something having "fallen off a truck" as one hears in English.
