External WiFi antenna on R51 possible?

#1 Post by RBob » Fri Sep 17, 2004 11:20 am

My new R51 (model 1836) has an Intel 2200BG card stuffed inside somewhere. The 2200BG has two antenna connectors, labeled "Main" and "Aux", while the R51 appears to have a diversity antenna built into the lid. [I'm assuming that the card in my R51 is the same style as the one in the photo I'm looking at]

I'm guessing that this would rule out any chance of using an external antenna with it, even if I could figure out a way to snake a cable inside the case in the first place.

There is no external antenna jack, right?

Hi!
I think the installation of an external antenna would take some modifications to the chassis. All i know of is a guy who did that with his Acer. AFAICS your warranty were gone after such an "surgery"... Anyway, just take a look here:

The picture of the 2200BG looks just like the one I have; the rest looks entirely too unpleasant to contemplate.
