Custom IBM Restore CDs?

#1 Post by djpharoah » Sun Feb 11, 2007 4:29 pm

I want to restore my T41p back to original but I find that the last times I have restored, I had to uninstall/install a lot of programs and drivers especially for the fire gl.

Is there a way to custom make the IBM Restore cds with custom programs, newer drivers etc?

Thanks - btw I am aware of nlite but with that you cant install custom programs and drivers only service packs.

I believe a Rescue and Recovery system backup should accomplish your task. Make the backup just after installing all the latest drivers and software on a clean system. You can boot up a Recovery Media CD to restore your Rescue and Recovery backup. At least this is how I understand Rescue and Recovery is supposed to work. I have not done any Rescue and Recovery restores myself.

Interesting - but what software out there does that?

The earlier versions of Rescue and Recovery called the backup program module: IBM Rapid Restore Ultra. Look in Start > All Programs > Access IBM > IBM Rapid Restore Ultra, or look in Start > All Programs > ThinkVantage > Rescue and Recovery.

If you do not have any of the above installed, here is the latest version of Rescue and Recovery.

But it seems like I can only install 4.0 if I have the 3.1 version installed.

Has any one installed version 4.0 of R+R? If so, were there any problems?

In another thread someone was having trouble installing this version. I recommended waiting. Subsequently, I had a number of things to do with my X32 which involved reghosting some images on the hard drive, buffing up the WinXP partition, and uninstalling R&R. After reghosting the whole drive, I decided, what the hell, install R&R 4 just to see if it will work. I did that over the weekend and it installed just fine (but there was no previously installed version there when I did so). Then, I did a whole disk backup, which proceeded without a hitch.

I have not tested the backup to see if it works but the installation of the program went fine on my X32 as it is configured.
