Hello Members of the T4x Series
I just won a T42 ThinkPad on EBay. The same place I bought my first Thinkpad the 570 (2644-3AU) which work great as a beginning Thinkpad. After a while l moved on to X24 (2662-MGU) and I thought I was doing good, until at a house party. One of the sales people pulled out Her Thinkpad T42 with fingerprint reader. I used it to signup as a member of a company online. I knew at the moment what ThinkPad I would finally I end up with, The T42 (2378-RGU):
Original description: P M 735(1.7GHz), 256MB RAM, 40GB 5400rpm HD, 14.1in 1024x768 LCD, 64MB ATI Radeon 9600, CDRW/DVD, Intel 802.11abg wireless, Modem, 1Gb Ethernet, UltraNav, Secure chip, Fingerprint reader, 6cell Li-Ion batt, WinXP Pro. This item is an IBM refurbished product w/ 6 month warranty
I had an 80GB HD 5400 with windows Vista Business and office 2007 installed on my X24. And yes it works, not as fast as XP but I did not want the Aero anyway. Now it will be moved over to the T42 where I think it’s a better home. And move the 40 GB to the X24. Image the drive and reinstall the x24 Org. recovery OS. The next step is to up the Memory to 1GB or just Max it out to 2GB. What do you all think?
In the near future, I buying an IBM Thinkpad Dock II 2877-10U which will be attaches to a 42” LCD TV. As Happy as I am, I thinking the X24 will have to go up on eBay to finance this change. It has served me well. I will miss the X forum. Then Again, I just might keep it, pass the 570 along to my niece and keep the X24 at Work. It has a ThinkPad second HD adapter for Ultrabay 2000 with a 60GB HD which can be used in the Dock II. So media can be moved to and fore, what do you think? With all this ThinkPad and think(ing) in this posting, it time to put this to rest. Thanks, thinkpad.com forum for being here.

I would hang on to the X24 - it's a wonderful machine that would make a splendid backup should the T42 have a problem.
The hard drive adapter is a pretty cool thing to have, but I find that most of the files I move from one computer to another can be easily transferred using a USB flash drive.
