"Explorer.exe" error causes automatic shutdown!

#1 Post by Timmy » Tue Feb 13, 2007 9:40 am

I installed Windows Vista Enterprise last night on my ThinkPad X60. The installation was easy and worked 100%. My next task was to re-install utilities and applications.

But after I installed Daemon Tools and then McAfee Antivirus 2007 Plus, I always get an "Explorer.exe" error and something about a memory problem? After I click the Okay button, my laptop automatically reboots.

I don't even have enough time to uninstall Daemon Tools or McAfee before the Explorer error window appears. Basically, every time after a reboot, the Explorer error window appears, even if I just do nothing!

Has anyone ever experienced this? Is it bad RAM? I don't think this is the case because I upgraded with a 1 GB stick from Crucial. This was in addition to the 512 MB that came with the X60.

Btw, this is NOT a pirated copy of Windows Vista Enterprise. I'm a software developer and the company I work for is a Microsoft Software Assurance customer. I just want to install Vista so I can do compatibility testing with our software.

Boot into safe mode and uninstall those tools to see if they are causing a problem?

Or perhaps use the Vista memory checker to test your memory:
