I am having many of the same issues you are having with your display. (I read your eye strain thread ) I have outlined many of the issues with my LG panel here on the Quality difference in pre-built and CTO thread. A few I forgot to mention are fonts sometimes appear to have a reddish tint and there is noticeable bleed out across the bottom of the screen. Believe me those two are minor compared to the difficulty I have reading the screen.

Thank you. I will contact Lenovo first thing Monday morning and see if I can get them to provide the BOE-Hydis (13N7194) panel. Since it is out of stock, this may not be an option especially if Lenovo has decided not to reorder/restock the panel. If this is the case, which of the other two monitors would be the next best choice?

The LG-Phillips (13N7078) or the BOE-Hydis (13N7076) ?

Any and all opinions would be greatly appreciated!

I'm surprised at the vehemence of your dislike for the LG panel and wonder if yours is any good? I have one and while it has a slight shimmer its not noticeable when you don't look for it. I also use Cleartype and don't see any problems, but I know what you're talking about because I see it on my Dell monitor sometimes.

Have you tried turning the brightness down one or two bars? I found that to be easier on the eyes when the room is not bright.

Bill, I should have been more specific in my posts and clearly confined my comments to the LG Panel that was shipped with my T60. The panel I received is most likely defective and therefore not representative of all LG panels. It is also clear however that I am not the only one experiencing similar issues with these panels. Reading the related posts on this forum is a good indication that the problem is more widespread. To what extent and to what degree is something I think only Lenovo knows for sure.

Any "vehemence" coming through in my posts has more to do with my own overall experience and frustration with the T60p I received and the subsequent cost in time, money and affect on both my personal and financial well being. Much of this would have been avoided if the LCD problems were more pronounced and more easily identified when I first received it, but it wasn’t. In my opinion, it could also have been avoided if Lenovo had been proactive by better informing T60 Thinkpad owners and taking appropriate steps to adequately address this issue. Doing either would have saved me a lot of time and headaches, no pun intended.

Regarding the LG Panel on my T60p -> When you look at the screen it certainly appears fine. To me it actually looks great and after performing the regular tests, no dead pixels etc were discovered. I did find some bleed through at the bottom of the screen but not enough to consider it an issue and certainly not enough to justify returning it. I have since noticed occasional red tinting on text. Only after using it do the real issues start to crop up. First the difficulty in reading text, especially black text on lighter backgrounds and then the even more serious and more difficult issue to identify and quantify: eye strain and other physical symptoms from the so called "sparkling effect". I have no doubt that becoming physically ill while unwittingly using the T60 to research these issues, have certainly added considerably to my frustration level.

Yes, as well as all of the recommended tweaks and nothing seems to help.

Please excuse me for the following rant but I do find this to be somewhat therapeutic. Thank you all for this forum and for a platform to vent. While this might be better suited in a Dear Abby column, here it goes:

When I purchased the T60p I did not bargain on the terrible physical symptoms I experience when using it or the huge amount of time it is taking me to investigate and get them resolved, especially with the LCD panel, which has been by far the most aggravating and time consuming. What is most frustrating, I purchased the T60 to improve my productivity, not bring it to a grinding halt.

Do I sound like I’m having fun yet? Well, it just keeps getting better and better! Last night I discovered the T60 may also be plagued with possible temperature and fan speed issues. So to my ultimate delight, I now have two more potential issues I need to investigate. Good Grief!

As the proud owner of a new T60p Thinkpad, I have to confess that did not anticipate or plan on having to launch a new career in becoming a Thinkpad expert in order to own, operate and safely use one. Well, reality is setting in and I fear this may indeed the case, particularly for new Lenovo T60 Thinkpad owners. Silly me! I actually thought by buying a T60p Premium Class Business computer, I could basically open the box, plug it in and with minimal setup, get to work. I definitely now know better. Could this be my welcoming introduction to the world of Lenovo Thinkpads?

On the positive side, I did discover these forums and now consider them essential for any Thinkpad owner. Kind of like the Swiss arm knife for Thinkpads I have also purchased three X31 Thinkpads since purchasing the T60p and have been extremely pleased with each purchase. If I didn't know better, I would think they were from a diffenrent manufacturer. I also have to stress that Lenovo/IBM Tech Support has been noting short of fantastic to deal with and I am confident they will continue to work with me to rectify any and all issues I bring to their attention.

Once this panel problem finally gets resolved, I am sure my vehemence frustration will quickly dissipate and I will once again become the loyal, devoted and most important, happy Thinkpadder I once was .
