Erratic PS2 mouse on my 310ED

#1 Post by madartist » Wed Feb 14, 2007 3:30 pm

I have a 310ED that I'm trying to upgrade a bit. I started with the 133mhz cpu, 16mb ram, 1.6gig hard drive, and the original Windows 95 install. Everything works fine, including the PS2 mouse. I first added 64mb (for a total of 80mb) and everything still ran fine. I then installed a 6gig hard drive (fdisk, full format, sys) and installed Windows 98. Everything works fine EXCEPT the PS2 mouse. It skitters all over the screen with just the smallest nudge, and it also sends random button clicks. I have tried:

Another PS2 mouse
Removing the PS2 port and having Windows find and reinstall it
A Microsoft PS2 Driver
A Logitech PS2 Driver
Different settings in the Mouse Properties

I reformatted the hard drive and installed Windows ME with the same results. I can put the original 1.6gig hard drive with Windows 95 back in and the PS2 mouse (both of them) works just fine. I can get a serial mouse to work fine with 95/98/ME.

Any help would be appreciated as I am at a loss as to what to try next.

Thanks.

Does the trackpoint work without a mouse attached? It sounds like your trackpoint might be bad, which could effect your PS2 mouse...

Yes the TrackPoint works fine at all times, whether the PS2 (or serial) mouse is plugged in or not.

I'm starting to wonder if I'm missing a setup disk of some sort that may have some drivers or other files on it. When I got the Thinkpad I also got the following disks:

1- Microsoft Windows 95 CD-ROM Setup Boot Disk (3.5 Floppy)
2- Microsoft Windows 95 (For Distribution Only with a New PC) (Compact Disc)
3- IBM ThinkPad 310E/310ED Preload Application CD (Compact Disc obviously)
The Preload Application has the following on it:
DD_Util 10.9 MB 11.3 MB File Folder 8/26/1997 4:28 AM
Demo 67.2 MB 67.3 MB File Folder 8/26/1997 4:27 AM
Ergonomi 38.2 KB 60.0 KB File Folder 8/26/1997 4:28 AM
IBMAV 1.81 MB 1.82 MB File Folder 8/26/1997 4:28 AM
LotusSS 456 MB 458 MB File Folder 8/26/1997 4:17 AM
PointCst 4.43 MB 4.43 MB File Folder 8/26/1997 4:29 AM
Reg210 1.72 MB 1.73 MB File Folder 8/26/1997 4:29 AM
TPCust 267 KB 308 KB File Folder 8/26/1997 4:29 AM
HOWTOUSE.TXT 2.68 KB 4.00 KB Text Document 8/25/1997 3:55 PM
setup.2 439 KB 440 KB 2 File 1/30/1997 11:53 AM

I have checked all of these folders and files out and there are no Motherboard or PS2 files or information.

My question is, Can someone tell me if there is another Setup/Drivers/Install Disk of some sort that I'm missing?

Thanks
