NMB-keyboard in my Z61m: Made in China :-(

#1 Post by theclaw » Wed Feb 14, 2007 4:23 pm

Hi there, what follows is a quite long story, would be nice if you'd read and give your advises/experiences :)

I own a Thinkpad Z61m. As i got it, it shipped with a Chicony Keyboard, Made in China, FRU 39T7452, German layout. I had various problems with it: some keys felt loose, the up-arrow-key "smallowed" keystrokes, and above all, after typing for al longer time (say, one hour) some of the keys startet squeaking - so I called the german IBM support and asked them to replace my keyboard. I asked explicitly after a NMB-one, and after some "reasoning" with the support-guy I finally got the OK :). I received the NMB-keyboard, FRU 39T7450, at the next days morning

Everything worked well at beginning, it was really nice to use the keyboard, but now it seems the keyboard gets used (after about one month I'd say): the keys are feeling loose again, the keystroke-sound is gettings louder, the clear "response" I got previously after hitting a key isn't there anymore.. so this *really* sucks :(

I'm a bit puzzled as everybody said the NMBs are made in Thailand.. mine is definitely not ("MADE IN CHINA" is printed on the backside)

Did somebody here have any similar problems? Would it be possible to ask for a replacement-keyboard again?

Very much thanks in advance!

with best regards,
johannes
