Sticky Acrobat Reader 3.0
Sticky Acrobat Reader 3.0
I'm running a Thinkpad 600E and I recently upgraded my Acrobat Reader from 3.0 to 4.0. Even though I de-installed the Acrobat Reader 3.0, the 3.0 version continues to automatically launch when I download a pdf file through the Download Manager.
The Control Panel doesn't even list the application any longer. Is there something additional I need to do to permanently delete the Acrobat Reader 3.0?

Sounds like a slightly wonky install.
Regardless, my recommendation would be to uninstall version 3 and/or version 4 -- uninstall whatever versions you can, and then download and install the latest version compatible with your OS. The latest version is version 8.something for Windows XP and version 6.something for Windows 98SE. There should be no reason to run version 3 or version 4, and installing a later version should get rid of whatever weird config problems you are currently experiencing.
To obtatin the latest version, go to the Free Adobe Reader Download page.

You mean that under Control Panel -> Add Remove Programs, Adobe Acrobat Reader doesn't show up?CDobyns wrote:The Control Panel doesn't even list the application any longer.

if you'd like to try a very small, fast and free alternitive:
http://www.foxitsoftware.com/ - it's free, but i'll call it 'nagware' as it does display a non-obtrusive button linking to the full version (which writes PDF files i guess). it's the only piece of nagware i install and it works very well. the button disappears after a while anyway.
