Can I add fingerprint reader to T42P?

#1 Post by richk » Thu Feb 15, 2007 3:09 pm

I have a T42P that has motherboard FRU 39T5454. I think that board supports the fingerprinter reader, but I'm not sure. If I replace the touchpad/palmrest, will the fingerprint readre be recognized as any other new hardware? Does anyone know for sure that my MB has FP support?

Thanks

look here in the list under paragraph 15

your fru does not even exist tho ;) but that list tells you which FRU`s do support fingerprint reader.

27K9910 and 27K9912 and 27K9911 for example do support it
IBM T42p 2373-GYG|14,1'' SXGA+|2.1 GHZ|2048MB RAM|160GB SAMSUNG HDD|1000Mbit LAN|Atheros W-Lan II a/b/g|BlueTooth|
- IBM Dock II
- Tucano Second Skin 14,1"

Thanks. The reason I think the MB will support the fingerprint is that the Maintenance Manual says that all the machines with model numbers 2373-N2X use the same MB. Mine is 2373-N25. Some similar model numbers, like 2373-N2U, have fingerprint readers.

The Fru's listed in the manual are very old, they no longer exist, going by those parts will lead you nowhere.

39T5454, 39T5470,39T5475,39T5494 are all the new RoHS complaint Fru's...

39T5475 has the FPR support for sure, 5454 might need eeprom programming to enable the support.

39T5248 is the base board which is programmed into the various FRU's above.

To my misunderstanding if your machine is not equipped stock with a FPR then you will not be able to use one, except the case you say is true: the MB is the same with the models that have FPR equipped by stock
