Missin Windows folder files after soft upd or Uninstall RNR

#1 Post by jag29co » Thu Feb 15, 2007 5:12 pm

It has happen twice on two different pcs. T42 and M52. Most of the files under c:\windows are missing. Including regedit and all help files. The only thing this two pcs got in common is that I did a software update or uninstalling RNR from the system. Have anyone seen this. I want to identify the source of this problem. Thanks

There was a PC Doctor 5 update in Nov. & Dec. of 2006 that caused missing and damaged entries in Windows Add or Remove Programs list, but I have not read of anything like you describe. I would tend to suspect a virus infection - especially since this happened to 2 of your machines.

I have Symantec version 10.1.5. with lates definitions, I have done virus scans and nothing comes out. Both are images that I download to do updates, I know the files are there because I use ghost explorer to look at the images. Something along the proccess of updating the images is causing my problem. Now I was thiking maybe an IBM update since is mostly what im doing. I had heard about the add/remove issue before since I got it in one of my pcs (doing updates to the image). Back then I try to find out why it was happening but I didnt find anything until a month later. Let just keep an eye on it. it might have been something else. Thanks
