new X60T configs in flux on lenovo.com

#1 Post by cheeebs » Thu Feb 15, 2007 9:46 pm

i am looking to possibly upgrade to an X60T from lenovo.com, but the versions available last week are not available now, and there is no obvious indication when the recent or new configs will be available again. e.g., within the last 2 weeks there were multi-touch screens, 1.83GHz cpu's, SXGA+, etc. listed as options. now it's XGA+, no mention of multi-touch, and max 1.67GHz cpu listed. and no SXGA+. the config i want is: minimum 1.83GHz (2.0 is better) cpu, XGA+ with multi-touch, and the wide viewing angle. these options have disappeared recently on shop.lenovo.com. anyone have any ideas of what to do aside from my default strategy of waiting?

All the X60T screens have wide viewing angle. I thought that only some of the XGA screens were multi-touch.

A lot of the online retailers have stock of the multitouch and SXGA+ models. You will have to purchase one of the standard configurations and possibly modify it through the store you buy it from. Lenovo probably took off some configurations because they would have trouble shipping them in a reasonable amount of time. I noticed the changes as I have been in the market for a new tablet myself. www.costcentral seems to have competitive prices.
Current: X61t (7767-96U, SXGA+) AND T60p 15in w/ Flexview (2623DDU, refurbished)
X60t (6366AJU, SXGA+)
X200t
IBM T40
IBM X24

does anyone know if the SXGA+ X60T will be offered with multi-touch in the near future? seems i've only seen XGA with multi-touch, but i don't know what is available in the market.

another question, subjective answers welcome....

i have an X41T (XGA) and like the resolution but it's short on real estate. i wouldn't mind trying SXGA+ on 12.1" but think i'll definitely want to adjust and tweak the font size because i really don't think 1400x1050 is gonna be ok with me on its default setting. does anyone think that i can effectively tweak the settings such that i can get:
  • font readability (font size)
    real estate
resolution detail, not compromising native resolution detail
???
does this make sense? anyone with experience here?
thanks.

lenovo has them on sale, SXGA+, multi touch, 1.83GHz, 7200rpm, etc on sale on their Canada-English site. anyone see any disadvantage to ordering from that site to shipment to Texas?

You might try calling...there might be warranty issues for ordering outside of the US.

Anyone considering the sxga+, integrated WWAN or the multi-touch may want to check out this thread over at Gottabemobile: http://www.gottabemobile.com/forum/foru ... p?TID=1820. Apparently, according to the posters source, the sxga+ will no longer be an option and will not be available even for repairs on already shipped units. Also the L2500 processor will be unavailable until a replacement is found, and according to the tabook.pdf, all of the integrated WWAN, sxga+ and multi-touch are configured using the L2500 cpu.

does anyone here strongly suggest running to find one from a reseller while they're still available, or running away from them entirely? i just don't have a sense about worst case scenarios and lenovo service and support.
