quick first time thinkpad owner questions

#1 Post by VC15 » Sat Sep 18, 2004 10:57 am

Hey,

I just received a T42 2373 3UU from Bill. I love this thing but I got a few questions.

The manual I got is a T40 manual. I'm pretty sure that it's not the same manual but I'm just double checking.

Other thing is that the tabook says ram should be pc2700 but when I go to access ibm and then system info and then warranty and parts, it lists the ram as pc2100. Is there a better way to check this? And if it is the wrong ram would I have to send the unit in or is this something they ship to me and I replace it and ship back the old one.

Thanks for any inputs.

As far as the pc2100 issue, that is an existing error on the ibm site. Everyone(?) has that same error.

cpu-z 1.23 is a nice utility to show your correct system info:

Concerning the manual, I can only theorize. Perhaps Bill ships the T40 manual to his customers as a courtesy. I was under the assumption that a paper manual does not exist for the T42's, just the the eletronic one.

ibm has done this for many years..
i remember getting a 760CD manual with a small supplement with 760ED's..

any paper manual these days is for the T40 series in general because all is the same as far as operation goes..

the REAL manual is accessed by using the blue thinkpad button..

I have a T40, T41 and T42 - they all have the same T40 manual. And it's pretty worthless................................

I have the Thinkpad T40 series Service and Troubleshooting Guide too, of course ... I thought you got some specific manual for a T40 - I guess I wasn't thinking too clearly :?
