Unwanted behaviour on closing lid

#1 Post by mikek » Fri Feb 16, 2007 3:26 pm

When closing lid on my R51 the machine plays a sound like when a USB device is inserted - or other hardware is changed. When opening the lid it plays the sound again, and the on screen display shows that the video output is directed both to laptop screen and also to external connector.

None of my other TPs do this.... I can't find anything to control it. Video is Intel Extreme 2, latest drivers loaded.

Any ideas?
Thanks

On my t60, I would go to Power Options in the Control Panel. Go to Power Manager and hit Launch Power Manager. Look under Global Power Settings. At the top, it has a checkbox that says "beep when power state changes". Uncheck that box.

This function may be different on the R51, but I bet it's still under the Power Options.

I don't think that's it... it's not related to the power at all. The action on closing the lid is set to "do nothing", although I think the default is "suspend".

I could really do with some help here.... someone must have come across this?

My T21 and T42 don't do this... so I wonder why my R51 is....

Thanks

Check in control panel, sounds and audio device properties under sounds and look through the list for device connect and device disconnect, you can disable those and see what happens.

Or maybe go into Power Management and set it to "Do nothing" when the lid closes. This is what I do with my R52 because I often close it when docked and at other times prefer to start hibernation and just close the lid and walk off as it happens.

Hi SF - that's exactly what's set - which is why I'm unsure as to what it's actually doing. Still, I've got used to it now, and it doesn't seem to be a problem.
Thanks

Hi, I just realized that you said the sound is like a USB device attaching or un-attaching, and that's different from the power change state, which is just a beep. Hmm...

I wonder if that indicates something mechanical - or - just some difference between the 52 and 51?

Does having or not having a USB device attached change this?
