Lid for T23 - differences in wireless equipped T23 LCD Cover

#1 Post by schiesz » Fri Feb 16, 2007 9:51 pm

I have been searching around the site, and found a few references to Metalfaceplates.com and work they have done on thinkpad lids.

So, I just bought a T23, and wanted to see if anyone knows if there is any differences between the lid for a T23 that is equipped with wireless or not.

The T23 I bought has wireless, and the extra lid I bought off ebay came from one that may or may not have had wireless.

So what I am trying to figure out, before I have any of these parts here, is whether I can get this extra lid coated by metalfaceplates.com and have it fit my wireless T23.

I am hoping that if there are differences, they are something I can cut out, or something along those lines.

I will have the laptop and spare lid in a week or so hopefully, but I am trying to see if there is anything I need to expect, or if maybe I should keep looking for another LCD cover that is made for a T23 with wireless.

Thanks,

schiesz

Here's something I posted the other day...

http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?t=37619

If you go to my web site where I posted details about a conversion I did to a non-internal wireless system, you will see that the major difference in the internal wireless lids are the two plastic "windows" along the sides where the antennas are mounted. There is also a difference in the LCD bezel as well which, if I can find it, was referenced in a thread somewhere around here. If I find it, I'll update this post.

edit: Found the post about the difference in the LCD bezels: http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?t=36925

I think maybe i've found a problem with my plan. It looks like the metal reinforced shell wasn't until the T30, or maybe even the T40. I don't think you can powder coat composite. So the silver vein powdercoat isn't going to fly on the composite shell. Doesn't mean I can't get it painted though...

Well, I now see that the thinkwiki does appear to say that the lid on the T23 is "Metal re-inforced" just like it does for the T30 and T40. Does anyone know if the T23 lid has metal beneath the tectured black, making the powdercoat finish possible?

According to the tawbook, the T23 has both titanium composite top and bottom covers. It's the major reason why putting a WiFi antenna between the LCD panel and lid doesn't work too well :) .
