Preserving R&R (WinXP) and Installing Vista
Sorry if this has been covered, but noone seems interested in doing what I'm doing, specifically I want to know before purchasing Vista if it is at all possible to maintain the old WinXP R&R partition on my laptop, and still do a clean install of Vista on the OS part. I know there is a download to create a Vista R&R, but I want to be able to go back to WinXP on my laptop, should I not like the way VISTA performs on it (I already plan on putting it on the desktop using the Family Discount plan).
When installing vista you can only choose the xp partion to install into. Normally you wouldn't touch your recovery partition. After installing r&r 4 on vista the old r&r 3 remains and lets you go back to xp and your factory install.
But it's always safe to make the rescue disk should anything go wrong.

Ok I got it up and running, but it wasnt a "clean" install. . .as theres stuff left over from the old version of windows. When I went to do a Clean Install, I didnt get the option to delete the partition (mine was 89.1G on a 100G HD), so Im assuming its protected? How do I get it so that EVERYTHING but the R&R3 is wiped clean, and install a clean copy of VISTA that doesnt prompt me if I want to load up the old version of WINDOWS I had installed?

There's a file that can create a bootable CD/diskette to fix the lenovo care button R&R function but it will destroy your Vista installation, all it's good for is to restore to factory after installing a Vista trial.
go to lenovo.com and search for MIGR-54483 download your specific version and boot the system with it to reenable R&R (F11 or lenovocare)
