Hi everyone,

I have T42p 2373GVU and some how DVD drive did not show up in "My Computer" area any more. Now I total did not know what going on and can not use this DVD drive for Music or Movies . Please, help !!!!!!!Here is message after I try to update drive for DVD drive:

" Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)".

If I take this DVD drive out and try with different T41p. It works OK, and then I try to use DVD drive from T41p to install in my T42p. It showed the same message. What can I do? Can I call to report to IBM and how to contact them.

Your DVD Drive is behaving the same way it would behave in mine if I don't stop it first before taking it out, then re-inserting it. Power your ThinkPad all the say down, unplug the power cord and remove the battery (make sure it's all the say off. Then take the DVD drive out....put it back in, attach the battery and power cord and power back up. Was just thinking that if power was always available to your ThinkPad, this could have been the culprit. Also, go into computer setup (press F1 as you power on) and make sure that the DVD drive is recognized AND enabled in Bios before booting into Windows. Don't know if it will help but it's worth a try if you haven't done all of this already.
