Damaged Thinkpads Manufacture partition

#1 Post by spt60 » Tue Feb 20, 2007 9:23 am

Somehow as I was trying to install Vista on my t60, it failed, then I install Rescue and Recovery 4.0 and I can't go back to the recovery partion by pressing the ThinkVantage button. I reboot with the recovery cd created by Rescue and Recovery 3.0, it recreated the app. in the recovery partition for me and I was able to access it, however the manufacture backup was gone.

What can I do?

Thanks 8)

If you haven't created your rescue disks you would have to call lenovo and order the recovery media kit for your computer.

Cost?

#3 Post by spt60 » Tue Feb 20, 2007 1:48 pm

What is the cost? Do they have the Windows XP sp2 set up cd only, since I don't need all the other junks?

I have tried to boot from a windows cd to start a new clean install but no luck since I can't see my c: drive because the security chip hide it. Tried to disable this but no luck :(

Thanks!

Always do Vista experiment on test machines.

Anyways here a link to order Recovery disks from ebay:

I wouldn't trust ebay on something that important... It could have spyware.

Are you sure it's not the AHCI (serial) drive that's preventing you from seeing/installing xp. Try setting Serial to compatibility mode in the bios and then try reinstalling XP.

Yes it's not worth to get some rescue media from ebay. Who knows if they are legal and not even worse not spyware or virus infected.

Just contact lenovo and let them send you the right recovery media kit for your machine.
