WTB: Desktop systemboard that takes PC2700 ram

Anyone have a spare systemboard and processor that takes PC2700 ram?

My Desktop PC which has an AMD XP 1100+ processor, seems to be having problems. I can't get it to finish installing Windows XP, even after removing and replacing every component that I could (ie. harddrive, all attached cards, ram, etc.)

I am looking for a cheap replacement, but if possible, faster than the existing board. This is a standard sized tower, not a mini tower.

PC2700 is old enough that boards taking it will be in the bargain sections of dealer websites and found very cheap on ebay. I suggest you do a little looking around at Newegg and Zipzoomfly and MWave and (heaven forbid) Tigerdirect for mobos fitting your needs. Alternatively, you might be able to pick up a Small Form Factor (like a Shuttle) PC for next to nothing that you could put your RAM and processor into, since ones that take PC2700 are going to be very dated.

After you do the math you may find that trying to reuse your old hardware in a new mobo is not worth the effort. This has been my experience most times I've run the numbers. Any system taking PC2700 is going to be at the low end of computing power these days. If all you are trying to do is to replace that level of functionality, you could just buy a very cheap closeout system and add some few things like extra RAM to it and you'll likely still come out ahead.

Then, you can unload the parts from your old desktop and you will likely be surprised at how much stuff like old Memory modules can fetch on ebay.

I might have an old ASUS Athlon mobo that might meet your needs. Will check tomorrow and let you know.

P.S. Is that an Athlon 1.1 GHz? I think the "rating" model numbers started at 1300+ or 1400+.

Yes, it is a 1.1GHz, I assumed that it was an 1100+, based on the BIOS screen....but I don't remember exactly what it said.

I think that's a 1400+ ... nevertheless, I'll check on what I can find.
