T42 or T42p?

#1 Post by wanna_IBM » Sun Sep 19, 2004 7:06 pm

I am currenty saving up for a new thinkpad (have a Dell now) It seems as though the T42p is the way to go. My question is this, is it worth the extra money? I am sure there will be many different opinions to this. I dont really do any presentations or graphics work or such, does the T42p have better graphics on the actual screen? I really dont have the extra $$ for the T42p but if it makes that much difference, I will get it rather than the T42. I am a realtor so will be using it in and out of the office. Thanks for your opinions.

Depends.

If you are getting a 15" then the 1600x1200 screen is probably worth it.

If you are getting a 14" - probably not. They have the same graphics chip and the regular T42 has enough graphics memory for most games, etc. The 2.0 GHz processor is only 5-6% faster than the 1.8GHz.

I think the best compromise is the T42 with the 9600 graphics chip and the 15" screen. If you don't need a graphics workstation (3D tours of properties?) then you probably don't need the T42P.

Just my $0.02 worth
