explorer.exe issue

When my computer starts up I get my documents opening I then have to hit ctrl shift esc to open the task manager and hit new task explorer.exe to get windows vista ultimate to load up to the desktop.

If you use regedit and goto "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon" what is the value of the string "Shell"? It should be "Explorer.exe". I assume this is located at the same place as WinXP when using Vista.

Yes it says explorer.exe what should I do the fix the problem?

Do you see any errors in the event log ater a restart of the computer? Did you install vista from a original vista dvd? Are you sure the computer is free for virus, trojans and spyware?
If the registry key is correct i have only seen this issue when there is a trojan or some spyware on the computer.
I do not use Vista though so if there is a Vista specific problem i cannot help.

just for a temp fix simply add a shortcut for explorer.exe in your startup folder

So nobody yet has found an actual fix for that problem? Or has anyone else had had that problem with Vista? I am very tempted to go back to Xp because of that.

Haven't had the problem at all! Can you look at Event Viewer and see if anything is available there as an error condition?

Why don't you try reinstalling Vista? Something may have gone wrong with the first install.
