I just dont understand being a slave to your phone? If it rings and you dont want to talk, dont pick it up. You dont owe the caller a reason or justification, you call them back when you want to. If it's important they'll leave a voicemail and you can call them back according to priority. I have heard people say this a few times about cell phones and I guess i dont get it. If you dont want to talk just dont pick it up....

My Sony CyberShot camera uses a Memory Stick Duo, it is actually a little memory card that slides into an adapter to fit into the camera, and the card slides out to fit into a standard card reader.gator wrote: Can machines other than vaio's read or write to a memory stick duo?

to the post above, Id recommend the Nokia E61i, which is slim and has wifi. I use a Nokia E60...a business phone to compliment a business notebook...too bad it doesnt come in black though. I cant wait for the E90 to come out this summer, though it would be hard to justify a cell phone costing as much as a Thinkpad. But it does come in black!

Yes, but how well does it make phone calls?
I myself got bit by the "featuritis" in all of the phones out nowdays. I also looked at the Cingular 8125 as it has WiFi but didn't like the size of it, not to mention the data plan costs if I started using it for browsing and email. When I saw the FM RDS support in the Sony/Ericsson W810i, I didn't even try making a phone call on it to see how it sounded (both receive and transmit ends).

I just picked up a T-Mobile MDA (WM5 Pocket PC) and I'm giving my Dash (WM5/6 Smartphone) a rest. It's weird using a touchscreen after being away from the platform for so long, but the screen size is great and it's quite versatile.

I'm waiting for an E90 and I can't justify (or afford) the price either, but I'm still going to buy one! They are now generally available on eBay (the red one is cutest I think) but some are going for crazy prices...I have seen a couple hit the $2,000 mark. (Meanwhile, www.mobileplanet.com is listing it for $979 with availability in about 4 weeks.) And there are some obvious con-jobs too, seems like some people are getting duped. With all the hoopla maybe this will be the Communicator from Nokia that finally makes it to popularity? Amazing if so, considering that it is roughly twice the price of an iPhone. Or will buying on of these remain a die-hard pursuit of the few (and rich)?ducky2802 wrote:to the post above, Id recommend the Nokia E61i, which is slim and has wifi. I just started using a Palm Treo 755p through Sprint and I love it. I've been wanting to move to a smartphone for a while now and have just been waiting on the right deal. There have been some offers with Cingular and Verizon where the price of the phone is next to nothing, but you have to commit to an outrageously-priced data plan. I found that Sprint, whose highest-priced data plan is only 25 USD, also gives a deal to IBMers....25% off all monthly charges! I'd be curious to hear from others about Sprint's coverage...particularly in the Minneapolis/St. Paul area (I'll be headed there for school in a few months). Their coverage maps indicated it would be fine, but I'd like to hear from an actual user.

I just got a second hand Palm Treo 650 to replace my old Samsung phone. Since I used to carry around my PDA, cell phone and sometimes my MP3 player, I figured a smartphone would be nice to have but I didn't want to shell out an arm and leg so I ended up with the Treo 650 I have now.

To noetus,
I think you are definately going to beat me to the punch on getting the E90, which is still a bit pricy for a student. If you do, Id sure like to hear how you like it! Im hoping that itll be down in the $900 or so range by late september, when nokia starts volume shipping. I like the black to compliment my thinkpad, but that red one is so nice looking, I am thinking about getting my thinkpad in matching dark red....hehehe just joking. Previously, I have been using a 9300i, but the signal reception on that particular series was so horrible, (a shock as I was used to the excellent reception of many nokia models) it almost turned me off from the communicator style phones forever...until rumors of the E90 came out with so much more hardware updates, especially the new processor and ram! If the N95 isnt the iphone killer in specs/features for the dollar, which the iphone I must admit is pretty competitative, I think the E90 will definately beat it in this respect. At least that is what I keep telling myself to justify a phone that costs almost as much as a new base T61.

Nice choice, Toine. I'm an HTC junkie myself! I watched a review on the Touch, and it wasn't bad. I like the touchflo controls for media, but it looked like most tasks were the same as an ordinary touchscreen. You paid a measly amount for it, so you got a great piece of equipment!

I use the cheapest samsung. the funny thing that its build quality is extremly good. this little sucker fell on concrete at least two dozen times, was kept in most for the past 2 years and it is still kicking hard with plenty of battery life. recently it fell out of my car while going ~20mph, the casing broke, the screen cover broke but this guy is still working.
To ducky2802:
I got the Nokia E90. In sum, it's a fantastic smartphone, though not really in the tradition of past Nokia Communicators, and some/many in the core and longtime Nokia Communicator community are quite upset about it. The problem is that Nokia dropped Symbian S80 and used an updated version of S60 (Version 3) for the E90. S60 was really designed for two-thumb use, not for a full keyboard (as in Communicators) and it really shows.
We can only hope that S60 will be updated in the future to re-instate all the lost funcitonality if S80. Hardware-wise, the E90 is really great though. If you want more thoughts on all of this, it's discussed at great length on the my-symbian forums. Unlike here on the Thinkpad forums however, the moderators on the my-symbian forums don't seem like a very happy lot.

Nextel Motorola i90. The only provider that works in this middle-of-nowhere is Nextel, and this antique sure can withstand beatings that my day in the field puts it through...
If Verizon (my employer, BTW) had any type of semi-decent service up here, I'd still be using my old CDMA Nokia...that phone had a reception to die for...

I used to have a Nextel Motorola i60c, the cheaper cousin of the i90c. If I could still buy a model like one of those two with a service other than Nextel, I would jump right on it. Those 2 Motorola's had just what I want in a phone: a monochrome LCD display I can see in the bright sunlight and does not turn off after a short time, a phone I can hear in a noisy environment, a loud ring available for noisy environments, rugged, no camera, an external antenna port, and the best size flip-phone for my grip. Only bluetooth is missing as far as I am concerned - but there are compatible bluetooth adapters that you can buy.
I am currently with at&t (Cingular) which has the best coverage for the areas I travel. I am using a Nokia 6102i, which is not a bad phone, but I have trouble hearing the caller in a noisy environment, the ring is too quiet for my work area, there is no external antenna port, and the display is hard to see in the sunlight (like virtually all color displays). I use a bluetooth headset to hear better when I am on the phone at work.
