Request for the poweron Issues with the T2X Series

#1 Post by furiousmonkey » Wed Feb 21, 2007 3:01 pm

If your laptop does the "Blink of Death" power on problem, where it fails to start and everytime you hit the power button it just flashes the lights.

Please help to figure this problem out, by typing your model #, maybe there is a brand that does not do this.

Thanks

I don't know if you could tell from the type number if a particular system is or is not prone to this problem. It may help more to know the FRU of the motherboard that is installed. The T22 had (knock on wood) this problem ever since I got it months ago, but now has turned on for me at least 15 times in the past few days. The T21 has partially turned on when I very quickly operated the power button many times within a few seconds. This is done by sliding my fingertip across the power button from left-to-right and then back again.

T21 - 2647-9AU; motherboard FRU 08K3387
T22 - 2648-V4U; motherboard FRU 26P8098

edit: And now the T22 is back to blinking at me!

Thanks for the heads up, this issue from what I have read seems to be related to an overcharge somewhere, so it cannot be just a random thing, it has to be a specific batch, and even with the later T2X.

Does this problem happen on the T23 series?

How do I check the Fru on my motherboard?

THanks for the advise

Not sure if this affects the T23s or not. Personally, I have not seen this in any of MY systems and can't remember if there have been any T23s reported here with the problem (searching the archives does not get any relevant hits on "blink t23").

The FRU can be found by opening the MiniPCI bay, removing the card and reading it off of the bar code label.

Thanks, I am going to try and slap a T23 Bottom on my T21, but I still dont consider that a fix for the problem, does IBM fess up to this problem? I looked on the lenovo sight but came up empty, I just cant believe a blind eye can be put on this huge problem.

Thanks for the heads up, I will look underneath in the morning.

2647-41U
My T20 just started doing this dreaded symptom. I have two 128 meg rams cards in it, so I tried removing one and no luck. Moved the single to the other slot and no luck. Removed the first and tried the second ram card and presto, it has booted every time so far. I'm am not saying I have found the fix, only that shuffling the ram and it affected bootup. Time will tell.

After one week of everyday, all day use, Not one fail to boot or system lockup-blue screen. I had a bad ram stick. It passed ram tests, but removing it has cured my T20. If you have a no boot T-**, try new ram and see if it makes a difference. All I know is that it has worked for me.
