Unoriginal ram? stickers with "samsung"

#1 Post by LasseFJ » Fri Feb 23, 2007 3:59 am

I've opened my z61m a few days ago, because I wan't to sell my ram modules, (2x512 ddr2 pc5300) - and it doesn't say lenovo on them, but instead they have stickers that are saying "Samsung" - is this not the original ram modules?

The dealer i bought the modules from says it is orig. ram.

Samsung is a large provider of memory modules, along with Micron, Mitsubishi, Elpida, Corsair, Kingston, and many, many others. Lenovo does not manufacture memory modules as far as I know. They may put a Lenovo or IBM part number (also known as an "FRU") label on the module to indicate that it has been approved to be used in the system, but that is all. I believe that IBM did at one time make their own memories, but that was many years ago. Most PC makers these days rely upon other companies for their source of memory. Dell, for instance, places a "Dell" label on Micron/Crucial modules.

You're lucky. I think Samsung makes the best notebook memory sticks.
Microsoft Surface 3 (Atom x7-Z8700 / 4GB / 128GB / LTE)
Dell OptiPlex 9010 SFF (Core i3-3220 / 8GB / 8TB); HP 8300 Elite minitower (Core i7-3770 / 16GB / 9.25TB)
Acer T272HUL; Crossover 404K; Dell 3008WFP, U2715H, U2711, P2416D; Monoprice 10734; QNIX QHD2410R; Seiki Pro SM40UNP

That is true. Samsung is the industry leader in memory today. Their sticks indeed have lower failure rates compared to other brands.
