T30 video output mode limitations

#1 Post by smd » Fri Feb 23, 2007 1:25 pm

I have a 1600x1200 external LCD monitor that I'd like to use with my T30. But even when I set my video resolution to 1600x1200, the T30's video card only seems to send 1024x768 to the video output. Is this a hardware limitation, or am I just not doing it right?

How do you have your monitor setup? If you are cloning what is on the LCD, it will only output to 1024x768. You either need to go to dual monitor mode (note you wallpaper will be in 1024x768, but you will have full resolution), or just shut off video to the LCD. Then you should be able to live in high resolution glory.

Thanks for the tip! It worked -- with the T30's (1400x1050) LCD shut off, I can get 1600x1200 on the VGA output. Unfortunately, when driven by an analog input my external monitor's image isn't very good. It looks much better when driven from my dock's DVI connector, but even with the T30 panel disabled, I can't seem to get more than 1024x768 from the DVI. Perhaps this is limitation of the dock rather than the laptop?

If I remember, I think only the A series can use the DVI port, but I may be wrong. If that is the case, then it is something that is not set up correctly when the computer is in the port replicator.
