Buzzing noise when moved

#1 Post by PatrickE » Fri Feb 23, 2007 9:18 pm

Whenever I move my T42, I hear a buzzing noise that I think is coming
from my HD. It sounds sort of like an out of balance cd that is spinning, but there is no cd inserted. It is coming from under the right palm rest and is completely quite when stationary. Could one of the platters be making this noise?

I checked for SMART errors and everything was fine there. This has happened once before but a restart cured it then.

So is it time for a new hard drive?

EDIT: The buzzing noise becomes louder the faster I move the computer. It also seems like the frequency changes slightly. Definitely, sounds like hard drive platter(s).

Thanks

do you have APS enabled? you might just be hearing the heads going backagd forth?.....that or the bearing imight be goin out and causing the platter to wobble like you said

APS is enabled, but looking at the program, the amount I was moving it was not enough to trigger APS protection.

I got it to quit buzzing for now by shutting it off for 24hrs. Now it is back to normal, or at least not buzzing.

Time to start looking at that 7k100 anyway, I think.
