Upgrading HDD for T41

#1 Post by Foxfire » Sat Feb 24, 2007 5:40 am

I have a T41 with 40GB HDD which I would like to upgrade to to an 80 GB as the 40GB is full.

The problem I face is that I do not have the discs for Windows XP Pro which came with the laptop or any of the other utilities IBM includes.

Can anyone advise/direct me on how I can upgrade my HDD successfully with a full operating programme. I have heard about cloning, but already confused how i can do this with a laptop

I have an external drive a WD 250 GB Book, could I clone all the data onto the WD and then onto the new drive? I also have DVD writer with the T41.

The HDD I am trying to install is a Hitachi HTS 541080G9AT00 80 GB.

Please be gentle with me, as I am not a computer Guru. Please do not blind me with Jargon.
:D

Thank you in advance

Bill's article refers to difficulties with T40 and T41, but suggests that up-to-date software can handle the T40/T41-style HPA. However, people that have done T40 and T41 disk upgrades say that disk cloning software simply cannot clone the HPA on those systems. I have not personally done a T40/T41 disk upgrade, but there definitely appears to be an issue with the HPA.

Here is some very information on upgrading the HPA on the T40 and T41:
