resource conflict-caused by swappable floppy/cd drive?

#1 Post by parangles » Sat Feb 24, 2007 9:26 am

In 98se device manager on a 770E, there's a resource conflict for
" standard bus mastering ide hard disc controller" .
I deselected ' use automatic settings' but I get a msg that resource settings 'cannot be modified'.
Is this from both cd and floppy drives using the same bay ?
Remedy ? Thanks lots !
Chris

I have never messed with a 770E, but that setting to switch to manual configuration I think can only be done in safe mode. Many of the 760s and 770s have many IRQ problems. Basically too many devices, not enough IRQs. Boot into safe mode, and disable the IR port (or something else you don't need). That should free up an IRQ. I believe that is your problem. I'm not quite as knowledgeable in this area because I never had to deal with this issue.

Thanks - I disabled IR, & installed an IBM registry patch, but then lost
recognition of the CD drive. After much playing around its now OK.
Thanks again,
Chris.

Glad to help. I did use a 760 at one point, but never ran into one of these problems. Thanks to this board, I know about this issue and able to help.
