XGL in suse 10.2 on a T43....not woring.......

#1 Post by thespeakerbox » Sat Feb 24, 2007 5:37 pm

Suse 10.2 recognizes my video card as an M300 instead of X300.... For some reason I cant get 3d Acceleration to work in. I've tried installing new drivers, but with no luck.

Any ideas?

How are you installing the driver? I ask because I had a similar problem and by using the command:

sh ati-driver-installer-8.34.8-x86.run --buildpkg SuSE/SUSE102-IA32

I was able to get my card recognized and enable 3d acceleration. I suggest you look at the following link (it has all the steps leading up to the command I listed and then some):

http://en.opensuse.org/Howto/ATI_Driver

It helped me with my T60p and, ultimately, helped me get beryl and xgl running.

I don't think you can get 3d acceleration under XGL.
If you want beryl or compiz, your best option is to use radeon open source driver, which supports your card, along with AIGLX, instead of ati proprietary driver, which doesn't have aiglx support.
XGL is crippled, leave it alone.
