We have 3 printers in my house. Mine is a HP PhotoSmart D7360, dad has a HP LaserJet 1320 and for pictures, a Canon Selphy diesub.

Currently have a DeskJet 995 Cxi. Has Bluetooth, which is nice, but it's still an inkjet.
Colour lasers are inexpensive now, but apart from the Samsung CLP 300, they are quite bulky. Waiting for the next generation, with the hope of seeing more choice of compact models.

You'd rather own three separate machines? Cost more and take up more space! I bought mine for onlt $60 shipped from geeks.com a year ago.mikey pizano wrote:I never was a huge fan of the all in one printers...

Very good choices for printers. The cartridges are harder to remanufacture, than the regular HP3si's and 4's, but they are good nonethelessPhazer wrote:All LaserJets

Old and slow but man are they workhorses, that and toner cartridges can be had for less than $40.00 which is cheaper than most ink cartridges and they last for around 3000 pages.
I wish that the toner cartridges for my 5500dn were that cheap though. It takes 4 cartidges. (Cyan, Yellow, Magenta & Black) The color cartidges retail for each $300 each, where as the Black is only about $240. They are each rated for about 15,000 pages, but in reality with her work, we about 4,000 pages.

Through years I've used Xerox, Canon, HP and found them all decent.
But the company which I prefer the most is Brother. I currently use Brother HL-2040 at home and upon my recommendation we have started using Brother HL-2700CN at work due to it's excellent compatibility with linux.

After going through (3) Epson all-in-one inkjet printers (CX5200, CX5400, & CX6600) with a lifespan of about a year each, I decided to try a different brand. I spent a couple of hours online scouring over reviews and decided on the following: Canon PIXMA MP600 - Photo All-In-One Printer. I picked one up at the local Office Depot. My students desparately needed a functional printer. We've only had it less than a month, but so far everyone likes it pretty well. I liked the Epsons we had too, but their lifespan left something to be desired...
All-in-ones are great for (2) reasons. You can do photocopies on the spot - without even using the computer, and their small footprint is very helpful when desktop real estate is limited. At the price point they are nowadays, it really doesn't make sense to buy a separate scanner unless you have special needs.

Here is the list of printers I have.
Lexmark Optra R+ (laser printer)
Lexmark Z65 (Not working right now)
HP OfficeJet R80 (used for copying and faxing now)
HP Deskjet 5550 (Main printer in the house)
I also had a one point long ago a HP Deskjet 550c that would take FOREVER to print in color. You could only have the color cartridge or the black, but not both at the same time.

Ditto - good little machine, although the flip out part of the paper tray has snapped on mine so when I print anything in fast draft mode I need to catch it so the paper doesn't shoot outpianowizard wrote:An HP PSC1315 all-in-one printer/scanner/copier.

I have an HP Digital Sender 9100c. A bit long in the tooth now, but still a great standalone scanner -- scans to email or file, and without the need to connect a USB cable. And the paper feeder is indispensable when you need to scan larger documents.GomJabbar wrote:All-in-ones are great for (2) reasons. I have a Xerox Phaser 3117 laser printer. Also had an HP 5510 All-in-one, but after a while it started having problems with the feeders, giving some random errors, and when the ink ran out, I decided that I'm not going to bother to pay half the printer's cost to refill the cartridges, when I barely ever need it, so I got rid of it. And I'll probably never get HP again - tired of their bloatware installations.
Hopefully by the time I'm ready to buy my next computer, color laser printers will be even cheaper than they are today, and especially their toner kits.
