reinstalled windows.. device drivers missing
I just reformated my HD and did a fresh install of windows XP.
I am now missing device drivers and cannto figure out which I need.
I have spenthours on the support site trying to figure out what hardware I have but they have a few options for somethings and some do not work.
I have the X40.
2371-1CU is the model.
Here are my errors.
Ethernet controller
Multimedia audio controller
Network Controller
PCI Device
PCI Model
Universal Serial Buss (USB) Controller
Unknown Device
Video Controler
Video Controller (VGA Compatible)
If anyone can help me figure this out I would be grateful.
Thanks

Why bother with loading all these drivers by yourself?
Go to lenovo's web site and download the small app "Software Installer". DO NOT download "Update Services" or so.
the Software Installer App is approx. 1.4 MB sized and will do the entire setup of your Thinkpad for you.
It might be that you do not have Ethernet support yet. So, the initial step would be to go to the device driver matrix of your machine and download only TWO files:
a) Ethernet chipset drivers
b) Software Installer Application
You will find the procedure to be very convenient.

look around in there you'll see everything there is needed to download.

I love thinkpads
Thanks for the replies.
I know of the site to get all the drivers. Just wasnt sure what I needed etc.
i installed the bios update and embeeded controller update. ( ibelieve I needed them).
ANd reason I have not used there program yet is because of no ethernet support. So I will try doing as suggested and hopefully that will do the trick.

After typing your model number in:

It seems that the only choices for networking are Broadcom Gigabit ethernet and the Intel Pro 10/100/1000 chipset. Personally, I think the odds are very good that you have the Intel. I would therefore recommend installing that first. If it doesn't work, you could always uninstall the driver and try the Broadcom.

X61 - 3GB, 80GB SSD
Just wanted to say thank you! Without your input I would have been wasting more time and probably not have things setup yet.
For some reason when I first tried to install the Intel adapter it didnt work. Not sure why. but it worked this time.
Thanks again for your help!
This board makes a difference!
