#1 Post by Flamingfart » Mon Feb 26, 2007 12:57 am

i wish to upgrade my hard drive in my laptop. Can i pick up any mobile hard drive and install it ?? i supose i can make some smaller partitions on the new drive if the bios do not support the full size of the drive.

is there any model a should look for ? i really wish a 7200 rpm model..

Yes, you can use a 7200 rpm drive such as the excellent Hitachi 7K100.

If you don't mind starting with a clean install you simply pop in the new drive and boot from your recovery CDs. If you want to to move your data over, you'll need to use an external USB drive enclosure (I think the R31's UltraBay Plus does not support hard disks) and then use something like Acronis TrueImage to copy/resize your existing disk to the new drive.

You'll need a Windows disc to make partitions.

Thank you all for the suggestion.

I have this little baby Hitachi 7K100 80 Gig 7200 RPM up and running in my R31. Big improvements over the old 30 Gig. This laptop is for web surfing and word-excel processing. Quite happy with the results.

Oh and i made a Dual-Boot Winxp pro - Win98SE. The very small partition of Win98 is for playing classics old games .. StoneKeep ,Lands of lore 1-2-3, Might and Magics series ....
