duplicate driver.cab

#1 Post by dcouzin » Mon Feb 26, 2007 5:21 pm

I'm trying to clear space on my hard drive and find two copies of the 73.1 MB file: <<driver.cab>>.
...one in C:\I386
...one in C:\WINDOWS\Driver Cache\i386.
What about replacing one of the files with a shortcut pointing to the other file? Which would be the better one to replace?

Likewise I find three copies of the unusually big <<arialuni.ttf>>.
...one in C:Windows\Fonts
...one in C:\Program Files\PC-Doctor for Windows\Java\jre\lib\fonts
...one in C:\IBMTOOLS\APPS\PCDRWIN\CUI\Font
Would the replacement with a shortcut work here?
And why carry around in C:\IBMTOOLS applications already installed?
And why does PC Doctor need such a fancy font file?

Shortcuts don't work that way, unfortunately, because they aren't file links in the sense that UNIX style systems understand them (although I hear Vista has support for such links now?) Here is some information on the C:\I386 folder that might clear things up: http://www.andybrain.com/archive/mb/i386-folder.htm

Thank you Tim. I'll restrain my cleanup.
