There's a little push switch on the back edge of the keyboard surround that turns off the LCD when the laptop lid is closed. On some laptops its recessed in a little hole with a small plastic tab that pushes it, on others, and I think this model. its just a little rubber number. Check that that is clean and not cutting the display out while the lid is up. Just give it a couple of wobbles and bashes and see if it makes the problem appear.

If this isn't the cause, and I suspect it isn't, then you have a screwy inverter. My only advice there is to return the laptop under its warranty, I assume its still covered coz these laptop haven't been out more than 12 months. If for any reason you haven't got a valid warranty then you're gonna have a hard time finding the spare part and your best bet is still to contact Lenovo about getting it repaired.

Good luck
