what's the screen case of the T22 made of?

#1 Post by kamaleon » Tue Feb 27, 2007 5:55 am

Hi folks

Last weekend i attended a LUG event in my home town. One of the geeks had a T22 thinkpad. I had a look at the machine and the screen case felt quite weird, it was soft almost as if it was rubber.

Could someone care to explain me what is it made of? I'm sorry but i haven't come accross many machines which had that sort of feel to them.

Cheers!

Titanium, but I'm not sure if that refers to the material or finish.
I alway try to go that extra mile at work, problem is the boss always finds me and brings me back

Thanks.

But i meant the outside coating, titanium is probably the chassis (are you shure the screen chassis is also titanium?)

I believe the T22 was the last of them to have the entire titanium cover, the others now just have the bottom case.

from the Lenovo.com website:

"The ThinkPad T21 and T22 is 33.1 mm (1.3 in) thin with optimal travel configurations weighing 2.1 kg (4.6 lb). Its dimensions are 304 x 250 mm (12.0 x 9.8 in). The new titanium composite cover gives you added strength."

Thanks!

That settles it then for the titanium issue.
But what about this funny-soft-rubbery-feeling material that coats the screen cover?
I had touched a pII thinkpad before and it felt the same way, around the keyboard.

Oh that's the self-healing coating that all Thinkpads come with, it miraclously heals any scratches on the case  No, only kidding, we have a thread somewhere about this coating that was pretty funny. I'll try and find it for you and post back.

edit: here it is -
