Mainboard replaced left with blank system-unit serial

#1 Post by arni » Tue Feb 27, 2007 10:27 am

I just got my mainboard replaced by lenovo. Now actually they forgot to set the right system-unit serial into the bios so now i'm stuck with a system that's not going to update any software by software-update.

I've read that there is a hardware maintenance disk with the option to reset the serial no. in the bios but only available to ibm business partners.

Anybody have this disk an is able to mail me? I don't want to send the machine once again to lenovo just for putting in the right numbers.

When you perform a BIOS upgrade you are given the choice to change the serial number.
Download the latest BIOS here and run the install program.

But only the last 3 digits of the model number not the complete serial and model number of the machine.

I saw a thread a going around a while ago, where some guys had the same problem and it was said that you actually need the hardware maintenance disk mentioned on the hardware manual.
