802.11n work?

#1 Post by torgo » Wed Feb 28, 2007 1:55 pm

Hi. I'm going to be purchasing an X60s and there is now an Atheros 802.11n option. Has anyone tried this with OS X yet?

Thanks!

Yep, will work beautifully after you install the Apple 802.11n free update from their site!

Running on it now

You're most welcome. FYI, there is follow-up 0002 update (info HERE download HERE) and BOTH are JaS Hackintosh safe.

One other piece of info for you and everyone else is that unless you have a Core2 Duo CPU you cannot install the Apple 802.11n "enabler" software, the one they actually charge for. This is because the installer checks to see if you have a Core2Duo "mac".

Good news is that you can always upgrade to a T7600 cpu just like you can upgrade the wireless card...

Oh, yeah, I was looking at the X60 series, but what turned me off was the low resolution. I must say that cannot go to 1024x768 after running @ 1400x1050 w/ 256MB video RAM on my T60p

WARNING!

#5 Post by ssimon » Mon Apr 02, 2007 9:55 pm

I since upgraded to the Belkin N1 Router and have therefore installed the Apple AirPort Extreme 802.11n Enabler patch. Following that I got 802.11n to work @ 144Mb (as per Network Utility) but LOST the sound!!!

I tried to re-install the moded "AppleAzaliaAudio.kext", fixed permissions, even did a successful "kextload /System/Library/Extensions/AppleAzaliaAudio.kext" but Audio will not work!!!

Does anyone have a fix?

Try the InsanelyMac forums, at www.insanelymac.com.

That's a weird reaction for the audio to stop working. It's that kind of stuff that makes me wonder if I should use OSx86, or just buy a MacBook, hehe.

Thanks, I already did last night  Posted HERE but no one seems to have a clue...

And after hours of testing I can confirm that the shear fact of adding the plugin called "AirPortEnabler.kext" in the Plugins folder of "IO80211Family.kext WILL BREAK SOUND on a Thinkpad or anyone using the AppleAzalia fix!

I was super carefull to fix permissions and triple check everything and it is amazing how a wireless plug-in breaks audio!!!

Really crazy stuff!!!
