Cleaning my T41p

#1 Post by sharpie » Tue Sep 21, 2004 10:04 am

I have 4 cats and a wife who snacks while on my trusty T41p. I bought a little keyboard brush that I use and it helps, but I can tell underneath the keys there is a lot of crap that should not be there.

I know I once had it open when upgrading my memory (or upgrading something) but I forget how to do it. Any advice on how to clean under the keyboard?

Also, any advice on how to clean the screen as well as the outer casing?

Thx.

LCD: there is a special liquid for sale, you can try that, or if it's just dust, use a soft lint free cloth...

Outercasing? Dunno? i would like to know myself (Isopropil? maybe?)

Keyboard? using a can of pressurised air to blow out the stuff under...

Water and a good cloth! The plastic can be helped with some anti elerostatic cleanser, but the LCD jut plain water, that makes it beautiful.

As a good doctor would say, an ounce of prevention is better than a pound of cure!

If I caught anyone snacking over my ThinkPad their life would soon be over with...

But, the compressed air does work wonders. Every 4-6 months you might want to just lift the keyboard off and blow out anything (carefully!) that accumulates in the guts of your TP.

I have a friend whose cat also likes to have sleep on his keyboard. Must be the heat and spinning noise!! Even the w-e-d keyboard bibs do not bother the cat.

Re. outer cleaning, you can use any glass/window spray. Just spray it on a cloth and not directly on the TP.

For the LCD I use hot water and a tiny drop of dish cleaning soap to break the surface tension. Wring the cloth hard! and after - wipe of the screen with a dry cloth.
