Thoughts on X60 1709-H6U?
Anyone have this model. Having to get this quick for an employee. Have added an extra 1gb RAM.
I surpose that Lenovo will do the free upgrade to Vista if I apply for it. How hard is it to install, do they inlcude disks with all the required drivers? What about the bios?
Sorry about the questions, old T60p user here

Product: ThinkPad X60 1709-H6U [change]
Operating system: All [change]
Original description: T7200(2GHz), 1GB RAM, 120GB 5400rpm HD, 12.1in 1024x768 LCD, Intel 950, 802.11abg wireless, Bluetooth/Modem, Verizon WWAN, 1Gb Ethernet, Secure chip, IEEE 1394, X6 UltraBase + CDRW/DVDRW, Fingerprint reader, 8c Li-Ion batt, WinXP Pro
Looks like a great system.
As for your questions
You may want to call to order it instead of doing it online. They may be able to upgrade the model and pre-install vista for however much extra it costs.[/quote]

I don't think they're doin the automatic free upgrade anymore, but I'm not too sure as to how that whole thing works.I surpose that Lenovo will do the free upgrade to Vista if I apply for it.
Easy and fast. Anyone with even moderate skill should be able to fly through it no problem. How hard is it to install
If it goes through Lenovo, then I'd imagine that they do. Either way, you can get them all of the Lenovo site.inlcude disks with all the required drivers
Vista didn't work for me with the latest (2.04 i think) bios....it was horribly unstable. I went back to 1.04 and everything was fine. As to which it comes with, I guess that would depend on when it was manufactured. What about the bios?

Greg, this model has an 8-cell battery and weighs 3.6 lbs, making it one of the heaviest X-series Thinkpads ever made. Are you sure your employee doesn't want something lighter?
Tomh has been telling us that Lenovo is still doing the free upgrade to Vista, until March 15 I think. But I don't remember if it's automatic or if it's something you have to request.RUSH2112 wrote:I don't think they're doin the automatic free upgrade anymoreI surpose that Lenovo will do the free upgrade to Vista if I apply for it.

At 3.6 lbs, that config is exactly the weight of an X31 (or X30/X32). Not the lightest X certainly, but still highly portable -- I have no issues with the weight of my X31.
The express upgrade is supposed to available for purchases up to March 15. You do have to request it. More info is available here:

Yes, without a doubt it is heavy. Weight is not that much of a problem, it is not carried thru the airports, mostly used out of company SUV. We use them to do our field work in the Apartment Industry. The funtion with Excel and long term battery is the biggest need. I think thuis will be like our other X60 except with a faster processor.pianowizard wrote:Greg, this model has an 8-cell battery and weighs 3.6 lbs, making it one of the heaviest X-series Thinkpads ever made. Another question. I notice the WWAN is locked to Verizon. Any way I can get it unlocked to Cingular. EDGE may not be as fast but we use Cingular and do not have a Verizon voice account which make the price pretty high for the times I am not covered by WiFi or plugged into my network

Nope. Different technologies. Sprint and Verizon share technologies, but I believe they will only accept devices that are registered in their database. You are stuck with Verizon with that card.Greg Gebhardt wrote:Another question. I notice the WWAN is locked to Verizon. Any way I can get it unlocked to Cingular.

It's "free" but you do need to pay for shipping.GomJabbar wrote:I read recently in one of the other threads that the Vista Upgrade disc is still available until March 15th. I am not sure if it is free or just a substantial discount.
It's worth getting, just in case, even if you plan to stick with XP ...

Excellent point! The X60 arrived and I am having trouble keeping it out of the hands of my employee until I get everything up and running. He is very happy he decided against the Tablet version. This unit with out the docking station will do quite nice for himtomh009 wrote:It's "free" but you do need to pay for shipping.GomJabbar wrote:I read recently in one of the other threads that the Vista Upgrade disc is still available until March 15th.
