The recall affects the nine-cell, extended-life version of a battery pack manufactured by Sanyo Electric Co. Ltd., of Japan. Lenovo sold the packs between November 2005 and February 2007 as an option in certain versions of ThinkPad notebook PCs in the R series, T series and Z series model lines, the commission said. The faulty packs have the part number FRU P/N 92P1131.

Don't you wish you had a recalled battery so that you can get a new battery for free? I don't have my T60 with me right now but am praying that it's affected!Manarius wrote:*looks at his Panasonic battery*

Are all batteries with the FRU P/N 92P1131 affected? My battery is the 9-cell type and has this FRU # and is made by Sanyo but after putting in my serial # the website said that my battery is not affected. I also ran the little lenovobatteryprogram application and it too said that my battery isn't affected.
Could the website and program be referencing to the Sony recall back in September?

Nice!, mine is going to be replaced. Allthough this sux on an environmental level, as a greedy consumer I'm happy, because I have my T60p now for 7 months, and the 9cell has dropped from 82Wh to 72 Wh, which means my battery life (on battery save mode) has gone from 6+ hours to 5- hours, and I was kinda afraid what would happen if that decrease would go on.

Assuming you're willing to gamble that your recalled battery won't explode or catch fire, etc., perhaps it's worth while to not request a replacement right away. If the recall program runs for a year or more then you could wait until your current battery loses power and still be able to get a free replacement.
Anyone know how long this recall program will run?

Hmm, I just learned from my message center (I just reinstalled Windows and havent removed the message center yet) that "Irreparable damage to the battery has been detected. Replace the battery with a new one.". The first instance of this warning appeared on the 28th of February. Coincidence, or Lenovo being sneaky about the battery recall? Of course, my computer informed me that my battery was operating at 1400% capacity, so i might be inclined to believe the warning.Habskilla wrote:I hope this is a good omen for me. Re: Lenovo to recall 205,000 Sanyo batteries
My battery has been recalled, just get a confirm email, don't know how long it will take to receive the replace battery. The website says 4 weeks.
One question, can we keep it as a spare one, the website say you can mail it old one back or take to a local authorized recycling drop-off point.

I Just talked to a IBM/Lenovo rep here in the Netherlands, and mentioned the battery. The thing he suggested was to keep the battery, and change it in half a year or so. The recall will still be valid, and I will get a better battery, cuz the old one will lose power.hausman wrote:Assuming you're willing to gamble that your recalled battery won't explode or catch fire, etc., perhaps it's worth while to not request a replacement right away. As far as I can tell, you must give the old battery back to Lenovo. I didn't send mine back because I didn't know I had to, but they later sent me a letter stating that if I don't send it back to them, they may deny warranty service in the future.
The box they sent the new battery to me in came with a prepaid shipping label to courier it back to Lenovo.

Battery Recall Redux
I opened the mail today to find an invoice from IBM in the amount of $120.91 for the replacement T60 battery they sent me under the recall back in March.
A quick telephone call to the number on the invoice elicited the information that as I didn't have a tracking number for the return of the recalled battery, I owed them the money due to the fact that I couldn't prove that I had returned the battery!
After calming down sufficiently to become intelligible I was transferred to customer support who stated that anyone who receives a similar invoice should ignore it. Apparently a computer somewhere within IBM decided to send out many thousands of these invoices unbeknownst to any humans.

[censored]. Ah well, the last time I dealt with a battery recall, was when Delphi recalled the batteries for their MyFi XM radios. I didn't need to do anything, they just sent it. The old battery still works fine too.dinotopia wrote:As far as I can tell, you must give the old battery back to Lenovo. Not that I'd really expect it, but they ought to add another year to your warranty just for having told you that. It's probably a good idea to record these kinds of calls as well.

Actually, I think it goes back a lot farther to Colossus: The Forbin Project. Good thing that IBM's computer decided to send out a "dead tree" notice as opposed to simply talking to JHEM's banking computer and electronically extracting payment.ryengineer wrote:I hope that computer does not turn into some sort of lethal network like SkyNet's of Terminator movies and plan on invading the human race.![]()
