Max 160GB HDD in a T42?
Max 160GB HDD in a T42?
Am I right that the max size for a hard drive in a T42 is 160GB - that all the 200GB drives are SATA which won't fit in a T42? What about using an UltraBay adapter? Thanks!
Re: Max 160GB HDD in a T42?
The SATA hard drive ultrabay adapter will not fit any T4x laptop. I have such an adapter and it has a tab on the leading edge that prevents its going in all the way into the ultrabay of my T43. I'm sure it will not go in on any earlier T4x series laptop either, given where that tab is.noetus wrote:Am I right that the max size for a hard drive in a T42 is 160GB - that all the 200GB drives are SATA which won't fit in a T42? I'm not commenting however on whether larger drives will be made in SATA, EIDE, or both. Of that I have zero knowledge. I should add, however, that as hard drive size has exploded in 3.5" desktop versions, they have made some very large IDE versions in addition to the SATA ones. I don't think it is that hard if you are already making a drive in SATA, to also make one in IDE form. The manufacturers will presumably make a decision based upon both the market for these drives in each format, and also try to figure out what the maximum size allowed (by the bios) for the already installed base of laptop owners who have laptops using IDE drives, before they decide which drives will be sold in what sizes with which interfaces.

I honestly can see no reason for manufacturers not to build large capacity laptop drives that are PATA compliant. Heck most laptops that use SATA drives do so through the use of a PATA-SATA bridge if I am not mistaken.
I currently have a 60GB HD in my laptop. I would love to slap a 120GB or larger HD in here.
