t60p V5250 installed mobility radeon drivers

#1 Post by jjt3hii » Fri Mar 02, 2007 11:57 am

Don't know if this is common knowledge, but it's the first time I was able to accomplish this on my FireGL V5250. No modification and control center works great.

download...
http://ati.amd.com/online/mobilecatalyst/

run it, the install will fail with no adapter found.

manually update the driver for the display adapter in device manager and choose "ATI Mobility Radeon X1700". You must browse to the files extracted from the mobile package downloaded above. For some reason you will see 2 identical X1700 listed. I chose the second one, dont ask me why.

You still wont be able to run the entire ATI install but you can go to the control center subfolder and run the setup.exe for it without problems.

You may want to set your monitor driver back to the IBM Thinkpad LCD (1680x1050) because it will probably revert to the Microsoft PnP or default display driver. You can also set the Color Management Profile to TPLCD and as default. If your interested the date I show on my thinkpad monitor driver is 11/21/2006 and version 4.0.0.0.

This Control Center has some more options then the IBM FireGL driver package did.

I'm interested if any of you guys have suggestions for tweaks to the v5250, please share with me.

Nice, thanks for the tip. I had tried steps similar to this (unsuccessfully) in the past in an effort to get my v5250 to play any game at all without crashing; I'll give this method a shot.

I wonder what the differences between the Lenovo branded driver and the ATI drivers are.

Nice.

Anyone else succesfully tried this as it didn't work with me.
And what are your Benchmark results, any better now?

Thanks

I didn't try it yet as I want to see other people if they were successful.
Anyone also done this?

I've tested it now with my T60p FireGL v5250 with X1700 Catalyst 7.2 Drivers:

Low Res: 6990
Hi Res: 4374

greets!

I don't know if there is any improvement because i never tried a benchmark with FireGL drivers.

So please could anyone of you test this FF11 bBenchmark with newest standard Lenovo drivers for comparing?

The score from user NJ_IT is made by a v5200 but there should not be so much gap. Maybe he used old FireGL drivers or the X1700 drivers are really 10% faster (on Hi Res).

You should choose "ATI Mobility FireGL V5200" - that's the closest match to the chip in the T60p - the FireGL V5250.

I have a V5200 (x1600) with a 2.0Ghz processor, and the default Lenovo drivers installed.

I get:
Low Res: 6643
High Res: 4231

for my scores. Which lead me to believe there is little performance gain in switching drivers. Unless the lenovo drivers for the v5250 are not very good.

Low Res: 6104
High Res: 5091

Lenovo Driver FireGL V5250
FF11 Benchmark 2

High Res: 4095
F11 Benchmark 3

What does that mean? Is it different benchmark version? Or CPU?

Not sure what you are asking about. But I used FFXI Benchmark 3 downloaded from http://www.playonline.com/ff11eu/downlo ... geID=media
.
