issues from my upgrade of access connections

#1 Post by bsaitz » Sun Mar 04, 2007 1:38 pm

hi all,

i'm on 4.12 of IBM access connections and after recently upgrading, dont! the new version, 4.23, doesnt let you use access connections to find new signals, you need to use windows - but it works really poorly and anything but intuitive.

i called ibm support, which was great, and the guy said, even he rolled back.. so i uninstalled 4.23 and you can still download 4.12 off the web site.

Which type of wireless card are you using?

4.23 worked well for the Intel wireless card, but I've had problems with 4.23 and the Thinpad (Atheros) wireless card.

Where does all this "information" come from? Access Connections 4.23 "finds" signals just fine with the Atheros card. I am doing that with the "Find" function as I write this and see my own and the other one near my house that is unsecured. ... JD Hurst

In my case, it comes from firsthand experience. I switched out my cards, replaced the drivers, reinstalled AC, and AC won't work with the Atheros card. I can find signals, but it won't connect. Once I removed AC, the problem disappeared.

I have no idea what the OP's problem is.

Strange. There is no beating First Hand experience, so thanks for the input. I can Find *and* Connect with my setup. ... JD Hurst

mine has the built in wireless and the "find" button doesnt appear any longer.. IBM support said that this new version uses windows wireless network detection.. sorry, i didnt mean to create a mess, i thought this would be a problem for all.

When I first started reading this post I have to admit I checked my version straightaway and sure enough I have the version mentioned. But I am having no problems at all with finding wireless networks. I am using the Atheros card and even though I normally have had great results with the newer Intel cards in our Dell laptops at work I am really impressed with the power of the Atheros card at pulling in available wireless networks!
I am not having any of the problems that are mentioned in the previous post? I do own recovery CD's and when my laptop gets in a funk I rebuild from scratch. Sometimes that is the only way to really know if it is a global issue or just a problem with your particular computer.
