I like the way the display lifts up - that will definitely reduce strain. The specifications are not bad either - anyone rich enough here to buy one and report

Of course I know about the Houdini and this post in Lenovoblogs (I even mentioned it here sometime back here). I agree that I haven't seen what Lenovo is going to do with the Houdini or how good it might be in action, but I like this Flybook better because the solution is simpler, and looks efficient without resorting to complete change in chassis design. IMHO, this design offers more internal protection as compared to the "stock" photos of houdini - I might be on the wrong road here. And oh yeah, the houdini is going to cost a packet when it comes.

I really like the idea of a flybook. The Houdini design is not very appealing. I have a feeling that the keyboard might get cracked.
This flybook is also very light. Only 3.6lb with DVD drive.
That said, the flybook doesnot look sturdy to me. The middle mouse is must for me and this flybook does not have one.
The price is not appealing too. it comes with only one year warranty.
Anybody knows which company designed this notebook?

Dynamism.com is an old, trusted name when it comes to selling laptops (to the US market) that are available right now in Japan. The flybook is made by a taiwanese company called Dialogue.

Indeed. They used to import Thinkpad 240Z's and/or S30's (I forget whether it's one or both of them) to the States.gator wrote:Dynamism.com is an old, trusted name when it comes to selling laptops (to the US market) that are available right now in Japan.

I didn't mean to imply any ignorance on your part, I simply thought some might enjoy comparing the two systems.gator wrote:Of course I know about the Houdini and this post in Lenovoblogs (I even mentioned it here sometime back here)

Some more pics of the Flybook here and here.
JHEM, I know you posted the Houdini for comparison, I have no issues there. If my post sounds a bit harsh, please excuse me, I did not mean it. I'll try to word things better.
Somehow I am not very comfortable about the Houdini - it looks very complicated and fragile. The keyboard looks pretty thin to take out and use it seperately. Unless it is made of some amazing composite which is strong and light, there are going to be complaints. Also, there is too much space for dust (not to mention coffee!) to get inside the system, unless Lenovo does an apple mac and integrates everything onto the LCD

I daresay there would be complaints regardless...gator wrote:Unless it is made of some amazing composite which is strong and light, there are going to be complaints.

Seems every laptop maker is jumping into the fry:

This laptop is debuting at CeBIT. I don't know what is the deal with the pink though - and the keyboard looks flimsy and awkward compared to the Flybook or Houdini.
Looking at this pic, I now understand tfflivemb2's concern - I would not want to type with my hands underneath the LCD. Lenovo's solution seems to be the best of the bunch, as usual, thought I have no clue how they components are going to be integrated.

Very pretty notebook, but i just don't like the display as close to my face as that design would place it..
nor that high off the keyboard..
same goes for the houdini..
also, the keyboard needs some mass for a better typing "feel"..
or we'll have another 760 series fiasco..

pivot would top it
Great construction.
Only a pivot function would top it.
IMHO screens get wider (by size or increasing resolutions)
but it is very straining on the eye to read a line of text from the far left to the right.
For my part the wide screens only make sense for applications
like AutoCad, or an IDE like Eclipse,
but for reading text documents or Web Pages
it is suboptimal without pivot functionality.
