Any videographer guy there? I have a Canon XL-1s

Any videographer guy there? I have a Canon XL-1s and would like to exchange some information with videographers.

No, I am not a pro but a serious amateur. I began shooting camcorder 7 years ago and fell in love with video stuff since then.

I wonder what you have done with your camcorder and what software you regular use. I currently mainly shoot for my daughter and use Adobe Premier 6 on my X60S. I may get a ibook soon to run iLife.
currently own X61S, T42, X31, Macbook Pro Unibody i5

I do a little video work. The XL 1 is a little older, but still a worthy camcorder. Premiere 6 is not so hot for DV, you can work in the DV format and save to that same format, perhaps with a different codec, then use an encoding program like TMPGEnc to make MPEG2 files for DVDs. Might need a DV Type1-Type2 conversion program from Canopus or Ulead to make the DV files work between programs.
This website has lots of good info, also this website.
Here's my company, I work with a lot of different cameras and here's some of my personal stuff. It's a constant work in progress.

The two websites you mentioned actually are two of my favorites. I visit very often.

Yes, Premier is a little bit old. I didnot bother to upgrade yet as I do not do a lot of editing unlike 3 years ago.

TMPGEnc is a fantastic program. I use it very often too.

I use XviD and/or MPEG4 v2 from Microsoft.

Vegas Movie Studio 7 + DVD Platinum for about $90 is not a bad deal. Whatever Premiere 6.0 can't do for you, Vegas 7 might be able to. I used Premiere 6.0 for a year or so for bigger projects and used Ulead MovieStudio6 to make smaller MPEG1 clips for web use because it is quick and easy to use. Now I have Vegas 7 and Premiere Pro 2.0. Even with both of those programs, I wind up using some of one progam and some of the other because they each do some things well and other things not so well. It seems by the time I figure out how to use most of the stuff with Premiere, they come out with a new version. Many of the guys I work with use Avid or Final Cut Pro, but the editing basics are the same.
The software you use depends on what the final product will be; web, broadcast, DVD, etc. HD is opening a whole new can of worms and a lot of stuff is still in question.

They've got a trial version, won't cost anything to try. Vegas has a nice AC3 audio encoder if you make DVDs. I'm not sure if the Movie Studio version has the encoder, or maybe the trial version might not, but you can do all your editing on Premiere 6.0, save it as a DV-AVI file and do anything else on Vegas. Premiere has some good points, so does Vegas, for many projects I wind up using some of each. It gives you a final product that is a little different than if you did it on one or the other.
