Help with strange t41 6 cell battery problem?

#1 Post by nikemen » Mon Mar 05, 2007 10:40 am

I know, batteries. I have read all the faqs, and tried the recondition steps, but this battery seems to defy the course of action.

This 6 cell, cycle count 110*, 47 max capacity and now listed at 19.97 max capacity, won't recondition.

Problem is, it went to this state, within about two charges. One day, it was working for 3+ hours, next it was shutting down in 45 minutes. Or, at least WANTING to shut down.

IBM battery gauge, says it is RED and needs reconditioning, which I have done three times now. Full stop, full charge, full stop, full charge. It goes to 100% fine.

Then, I unplug and it goes to 85%, then it runs about 50 minutes, and then it says 10% charge, and then 1 minute later, it shows ZERO and says it is now critical,

So, for the recondtion phase, I let it run, and it runs about another 35 minutes, maybe more. It shows ZERO for 40+ minutes more, and then finally does die.

What can be done, what is going on?

It sounds to me like the electronics in your battery may be defective. You can probably find a new old stock T4x replacement battery on ebay for around $40 if you look for a week or two, and that might be the cheapest and easiest solution for you.

All these batteries are composed of several cells. I think you likely have a bad cell. Not much to do but have your battery re-celled or buy a new one. Perhaps one of the following two threads will be of interest to you.
