Boot problem

I have a A31 Thinkpad, Windows XP Pro incl. SP2 installed.

I am experiencing a strange, new problem when booting Windows XP: When turning on the computer everything seems to work fine. The Master Boot Record is found so that the boot process starts on Drive C. However, then there is little cursor on upper left side and it takes about 40 to 50 seconds (while the hard disk is working) until the windows boot screen appears. It's annoying because the boot process takes about 20 seconds longer than before. What could be wrong?

Please note that I do not know since when I am facing this problem (it could be since installing SP2). Another info: The last entries in NTBT.log is "ADF.sys" could not be loaded. And finally, NAV cannot find any virus.

Any idea, what's going on? What can I do (besides reinstalling the whole system which would be a major headache)?

PS: I've just learned that even if use the Hibernate function the cursor blinks on the upper right sight for 10 to 20 seconds. Is maybe the Master Boot Record corrupted?

In some other forum I found reference to "Windows Still Image Service" or "Windows Image Acquiration" (WIA) service. Try to set it to manual start instead of automatic.

Thanks for the answer. It didn't helo. Well, I'm pretty sure that the problem is either a hardware problem, or the Master Boot Record is corrupted. Next week, I'll have a call with IBM technicians. Maybe, they have any idea how to find out what's wrong.
