::Remove "IBM Java 1.4.2" & use "Sun Java

#1 Post by Talon88 » Tue Mar 06, 2007 6:57 am

:::

My Z60t come with "IBM Java 1.4.2"
I never see any update for Java from "Software Installer 4"
& "System Updater 3".

Can I remove "IBM Java 1.4.2" & use "Sun Java 1.5.0.11"?
Can the IBM Java be remove clearly?

Anybody did this already...? Will it affect the
IBM Application....??

Thanks......!

Yes, you can remove it. Yes, you can replace it. I am using Sun Java 1.6 on both my IBM desktop and IBM ThinkPad. I have System Update 3 on my desktop and it works. I have Software Installer 4 on my laptop and it works (although it finds very little any more). Still the seaching functions works and it can update files I manually download. ... JD Hurst

Do you remove v1.4.2....??

Before I do the update, I need to do a Full R&R backup to my
USB drive first...!

Sun Java is an ill-behaved program that installs multiple copies unless you uninstall the prior version. I have no problem with multiple copies if it is a option, but Sun provides no option for removing the prior install. ... JD Hurst

When I upate Sun Java, I un-install the old version under Add/Remove Programs. Then I run the installer for the new version. Then, if you poke around you can find some remaining "Old Version" files and delete them manually.

Edit: I don't use the IBM Software Updater. I Download the newest Sun Java version (Java Runtime Environment (JRE) X.X) Here:http://java.sun.com/javase/downloads/index.jsp

OK, I am Back.

I have removed IBM Java 1.4.2 from Add & Remove.
IBM System update don't have New Java 1.5.x
Install Sun Java directly from Sun.

Everythings is Work, no ill effect!

Thanks all who give info.....!
